Mindfulness 101: Back to Meditation School with Jennifer O'Sullivan

By training up our ability to closely watch our mind, we become intimate with our suffering, our habitual patterns of grasping and avoiding, all the while opening a doorway to personal insight. Only when we know ourselves deeply can we relax reactive habits and live with a more open-heart. In this 4-week series, you'll learn to practice a variety of traditional mindfulness meditation methods that calm the mind and relax the body, improve focus and concentration, develop an accepting and resilient orientation towards life's challenges, and cultivate an open-hearted and friendly attitude towards yourself and others.

Learn a set of yoga exercises that can reverse an overly rounded upper back.

Slouching or hunching is far from flattering, but more importantly, recent studies are confirming that a hunched posture is associated not only with increased neck tension and impaired mobility but also with increased risk of falls, shortness of breath, heart and lung disease, as well as depression and anxiety. The good news is that a hunched posture (hyperkyphosis) is reversible. Once you learn the key yoga exercises, all you need is 2 yoga blocks and 5-10 minutes a day.

Tapas - Resiliency and Purification Through Effort: Iyengar Yoga Weekend with Lori Ritland

In Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, a root text of classical yoga, he lists tapas as one of the niyamas, or personal observances. The word tapas comes from ‘tap’ in Sanskrit which means to blaze or burn.  It is a burning, self-disciplined effort to purify the body and mind. Through intense effort, we can let go of obstacles and make way for compassion and forgiveness. Each session of this  this special weekend workshop with Iyengar Yoga teacher Lori Ritland will incorporate aspects of tapas, and students will come away inspired and energized.
