Building Resilient Families: Yoga and Mindfulness for Emotional Health in the Elementary Years (Arlington)

  • Sun & Moon – Arlington 3811 Lee Highway Arlington, VA, 22207 United States (map)

Parents and children ages 6-10 will learn yoga and mindfulness techniques to maintain emotional balance, build resilience and self-esteem, and resolve common challenges such as emotional meltdowns, power struggles, and aggressive behavior.

In this two-hour workshop, parents and children will practice side-by-side to enhance their ability to manage emotions and also have opportunities to work individually on developing their skills and knowledge for self-regulation.

Guided by a licensed counselor, PARENTS will understand the development of self-control and the value of resilience in 6-10 year olds and how to cultivate these characteristics through yoga, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques in daily routines.

With the help of certified children's yoga educators, CHILDREN will learn simple, practical, developmentally-appropriate means for self-regulation, relaxation and focus as they practice body and breath awareness and design and understand the use of mandalas for meditation.

Co-taught by Diana Bermudez (PhD, LPC) and Lisa Danahy (ERYT 200, RCYT, YACEP), leaders in mental health education for children, families and professionals.
