Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm.
from "The Snowstorm" by Ralph Waldo Emerson
It's a holiday season we'll all remember, and not for the usual reasons that memory serves. We may be keenly aware of all that's been hollowed out by the storm of 2020 – the gatherings that didn't happen, the meals we couldn't share, the embraces we were warned not to make. However, as Emerson reminds us above, we can huddle in shelter from this storm, build a radiance in our enclosure, and allow this radiance to fill us with its warmth.
We send you bright and hopeful greetings on this holiday, and hope that you may take comfort in whatever radiance you are able to stoke from within.
