Parents and their children (3-6 years old) will learn and practice yoga and mindfulness techniques to maintain emotional balance, build resilience and self-esteem, and resolve common challenges such as temper tantrums, power struggles and aggressive behavior. In this two-hour experiential workshop, parents and children will practice yoga side-by-side to enhance their ability to manage emotions. Guided by a licensed counselor, parents will understand the development of self-control and the value of resilience in 3-6 year olds and how to cultivate these characteristics through yoga, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques in daily routines. Children will learn simple, practical, developmentally-appropriate means for self-regulation, relaxation and focus as they practice body and breath awareness. Each family will leave with a piece of meditative art created by their child and a symbol chosen by the parent to establish a home practice of mindfulness. This course is co-taught by Diana Bermudez and Lisa Danahy, leaders in the field of mental health education for children, families and professionals.
$50 per parent/child pair in advance; $65 at the door
This workshop will be repeated in our Fairfax Studio on Sun Jan 27th.
