We all know those texts.
"Be right buck."
"Are you fee?"
"In meeting, call you shirtly."
My favorites are the ones that make unintended jokes, like the time my brother texted to ask if I'd heard from Dad yet, but it came through as, "did you head for dead yet?" Either way, not yet!
The beauty here is that our brains are programmed to put the pieces – or the letters – together. It's the same neurological mercy that prevents us from having to re-learn to brush our teeth each morning, or check a recipe every time we want to boil water to make tea. It frees up the mental and emotional space to learn and process the big stuff: how to live through a pandemic; how to know if we're in love; how to appropriately mourn losses and celebrate gains.
The saying goes, "neurons that fire together, wire together." With repetition, we create the neural pathways that shape the way we perceive and experience the world. With the simple stuff, it happens without a second thought. With the bigger challenges, it takes intention, practice, and a willing heart.
This is where yoga can be a magnificent blessing in our everyday lives. It's an opportunity to create the pathways toward expansive compassion, energetic balance, and flexible strength. It's ready-made for enhancing connections: mind to body, breath to wellness, and each one of us to each other.
