A friend recently shared that the longer the pandemic goes on, the harder it's become to get out of bed each morning for the work-from-home lifestyle. Previously, with outfits to pick, traffic to beat, and meetings to make, the bar to entry was high but the payoff was exhilarating. Now, the bar is so low that the office is only one cup of coffee and ten steps away, and it has ironically translated – for at least some folks – into a major motivation struggle.
Everybody needs a slipstream once in a while, like a tired cyclist drafting behind a fellow rider, hopping aboard a current of flow created by another body when our own inner resources are depleted or MIA. These slipstreams are places where we can garner strength, catalyze action, and align ourselves with forces greater than our own. They can also be truth-telling humblers: it's o.k., they say, to slow down and find support when we need it.
Practicing yoga asana can be a way to create our own inner slipstreams. We change shapes, revolve the spine, rearrange our limbs, and an inner force appears, as if to carry us toward ever-increasing freedom and ease, perhaps to enough renew life force at least for one more day.
We are so happy to be back in the slipstream of the studio, and just as grateful to hold space online each day of pandemic life and beyond. Come venture into the stream with us! For a reminder of how it feels, click below to enjoy this little peek into class with me as I cue and comfort students into, in between, and out of the streams of revolved triangle pose.
In peace,
Annie
P.S. Hat tip to the song _Astral Weeks_ by Van Morrison, for the little musical slipstream that inspired this piece.
