The reality of human variation teaches us that life is not so idyllic. We are all different and what works for one person is not guaranteed to work for another. A common belief is that short, tight muscles restrict individual range of motion, but these restrictions can come from numerous diverse sources. Another worthy differentiation is between stretching for health and stretching to increase an already unstable range of motion. In this workshop, we will re-examine the popular view that individuals should all look the same in asana, investigate the principles underlying common asana shapes, examine the undue stressors on various joins that make it impossible to move through the unique full, natural range of motion, and land on each one’s unique answer to the important question, “what is the alignment that works best for me?”
