overview
Our view of yoga’s meaning and origins is holistic, and our approach to teacher training is trauma-informed throughout. Students receive essential information and tools to help guide a discovery of their own unique voice and style.

your in-depth guides
Lead trainers are Andrea Kiss, E-RYT 500 and Annie Moyer, E-RYT 500, YACEP. As a testament to the friendship bond that can form in a cohesive teacher training cohort, Andrea and Annie completed their first teacher training together as young moms and avid yoga practitioners in 2002-2003, and have been teaching and connecting through yoga ever since.
A former dance instructor and longtime student and teacher of movement, Andrea has gone on to become a trauma-informed Compassionate Inquiry therapist under Gabor Maté. Andrea is the lead teacher for the In-Depth program’s teaching methodology and asana technique courses.
“I take an embodied, nurturing, multidimensional approach to conveying yoga’s healing potential. My students are like my children: I care deeply about them, and I invest my whole self into their learning, while simultaneously giving plenty of space so that each person can find their own unique expression as teachers.”
A former high school English teacher and yoga history and philosophy connoisseur, Annie, E-RYT 500, works part time as an interfaith hospital chaplain after recently completing a Master of Divinity for Buddhist Chaplaincy. Annie is the lead teacher for the In-Depth program’s yoga history and philosophy courses.
“When the pandemic hit, I had 18 years of yoga teaching under my belt, but learning to teach online felt like learning to teach entirely all over again. In addition to this appreciation of returning to a beginner’s mindset, I also witnessed first-hand how profoundly our yoga community supported each other and how mindfulness practice was a key tool for survival. These are the lessons I look forward to sharing in teacher training. ”
Featured Faculty
A key part of a yoga teacher’s competence and confidence comes from a working understanding of functional and applied anatomy.
Our resident expert in this field is Dr. Candace Harding, PT, DPT, OCS, PYT-c, who leads the 20-course of yoga anatomy training as part of the In-Depth program. Candace is founder of Thrive With Dr. C, a physical therapy practice helping adults and athletes live an active life of enjoyment. She is Doctor of Physical Therapy, Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, and RYT 200.
“Yoga is an avenue of improved physical functioning as well as a gateway for deeper understanding of the inner self, both of which are necessary for prolonged physical independence, mental acuity, and a continued sense of “youthfulness” as we age.
As a doctor of physical therapy and a yoga instructor, I provide safe space to develop necessary tools for exploration. My ability to blend the knowledge of common physical shortcomings and how to address them, into yoga sequencing allows me to provide more value to my students than they may know.
I am excited to share some bit of knowledge with those that desire to assist others on their journey of personal growth. ”
Resident Rocket Yoga expert and founder and director of Sun & Moon’s Rising program of heated vinyasa and Rocket classes, Ahmed Jabali-Nash, RYT 500, leads the Vinyasa modules, plus hands-on assists and teaching methodologies. Ahmed is the Founder of Sun & Moon’s Rising program of Rocket and heated vinyasa classes
“As a seasoned yoga teacher with over 12 years of experience, I bring a unique perspective. Notably, I’ve never had the opportunity to be taught in a Yoga Teacher Training by an instructor who shares my background. This personal experience informs my teaching approach, allowing me to create a safe and inclusive space for students from diverse backgrounds. With years of experience, I’ve developed the ability to read the room and tailor my instruction to meet students where they are, guiding them further on their journey.
I have a special way of bringing my family into the room as I love to laugh, smile and encourage teachers to build community on and off the mat.
You can look forward to becoming stronger physically, assist like no other and leave felling confident to hold space with joy. ”
Amir Tahami, co-owner of Sun & Moon and longtime experienced teacher of yoga therapy, teaches the asana clinics in our In-Depth program. In these clinics, students gather and train their eyes to spot imbalances in students’ posture, build skills to offer verbal adjustments and support as a yoga teacher, and feel and remedy imbalances in their own bodies.
Ultimately, the journey of yoga has as much to do with our commitment to the path as the accumulation of knowledge. Nothing can substitute for the experience of applying to daily life what we take in as classroom study.

BIPOC Scholarships
In recognition of yoga’s origins among people of color, and as part of our commitment to repairing the under-representation of people of color who are practicing, teaching, and running yoga businesses today, we offer a sliding scale tuition for members of the BIPOC community dependent upon the size of the incoming cohort. This may be an option for those with or without need, and is intended for those who seek to carry the impact of the program forward into their respective communities. Email us to discuss the possibilities.

Why "In-Depth"?
Our program name is deliberate. We set the stage for life-long study, self-discovery, and passionate purpose. Rather than rushing through generalized certification standards, we focus our work on the rich and deep traditions of yoga. Ours stands apart from other teacher training programs with:
Visits and influence from some of the country’s most prominent teachers;
Richly eclectic training and inspiration from Sun & Moon’s own senior teachers;
A vast web of learning from each other as our strong and committed community continually expands;
Support and guidance in the direction that serves you.
“The Sun & Moon Yoga Teacher Training was much more comprehensive than the training a colleague took at her local gym. I feel very well-prepared to teach. They provided a background in philosophy, teaching techniques, and had multiple master teachers who we could observe, and learn from. They also brought in very well known teachers from across the country who we could learn from. I believe the teacher training is just the beginning of my yoga teaching journey as I will continue to study and learn.”
“The teacher training program at Sun & Moon has been thoughtfully designed with a well-balanced combination of in-depth philosophy studies, gross and subtle anatomy, and detailed asana instruction. The expertise and unique perspective of each faculty member was invaluable and the whole experience went above and beyond expectations. Sun & Moon has created a true community of dedicated teachers that strive for continued growth and value learning as much as their students. I could not recommend this program more highly!”
“My teacher training experience at Sun & Moon was phenomenal, teachers and colleagues were very supportive and inspiring. The program is very comprehensive, I talked to other recently-certified yoga teachers and they did not receive the same level of depth and were not exposed to as many topics within their teacher training programs. I appreciated the heavy focus on yogic philosophy as that has been a primary area of interest, I believe it built the foundation for me to grow and learn all aspects of yoga. The community at Sun and Moon is vibrant and thriving and it is somewhat different than other yoga studios in the area... a real gem in an otherwise chaotic sea of yoga studios that are not grounded in the true origins of yoga. Not only did I discover all that I was seeking in terms of a robust teacher training program, but I found peace, stillness and joy in their approach and deep passion for the study and practice of yoga.”
Whether you’re looking to deepen your understanding of yoga for your own development, to teach it to the general public , or to take your current teaching and use it to specialize in a certain population, our programs provide the skills to practice/teach/live with intelligence, safety and joy.
You’ll sharpen skills of observation to wisely discern appropriate techniques to meet your own and every unique need and aspiration.
